Cebu & Mactan Explorations

Cebu island is littered with karst formations and this is a good thing for cavers.

Pawod Cave At the doorstep of the MAD Cavers’ HQ is the Pawod Cave. This freshwater cave system can be found beside a highway, a few minutes away from a 5-star resort and only 20 minutes from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport! This jewel in our midst and God’s gift to us was this blogger’s graduation stage for his technical cave diver course back in 2007.

Beyond Mactan is a treasure box littered with several fine areas awaiting discovery. One notable place in the western side of Cebu is Balamban and its outlying municipalities.

Casili SpringThe MAD Cavers started out with the Cambuhawi Spring and later on, discovered the cave system called Casili Spring.

The Casili Spring has been visited 6 times already! We’ve yet to reach the end of its deep and long tunnel. The explorations will definitely continue. Learn about the happenings of each trip by clicking on the trips and dates listed below:

casili fishCurious what sort of creatures lurk beneath Casili Spring? Read up on “The Identification and Documentation of the Aquatic Fauna of Casili” made in cooperation with the Aquatic Cebu Enthusiasts (ACE).

A side trip after the 6th Casili Spring trip brought us to the Gumbang Spring of Tabuelan. This is one eerie cave!
